New Wage and Allowance Agreement
The Scottish & Northern Ireland Joint Industry Board for the Plumbing Industry (SNIPEF & UNITE) have reached an agreement on the Graded rates of wages and allowances to apply from Monday 19 August 2024.
Plumbing and Heating Apprenticeship Review
SNIPEF and Skills Development Scotland have published an online survey to receive industry views on the Modern Apprenticeship in Plumbing and Heating in Scotland. The survey asks what your real-life work tasks are and what should be in the apprenticeship to ensure the next generation of professionals are ready for the sector.
The survey also invites employees and employers in the industry to attend a workshop and the Technical Expert Group.
The Industry recognised apprenticeship
A review of the Plumbing and Heating Apprenticeship is due to commence in October. The first stage of the review will be to publish a profession-wide consultation. This will aim to assess the skill needs of the industry, matching our traditional requirements alongside those of renewable and emerging technologies. You can look forward to receiving the consultation when it is published.

Graded Rates of Wage
The Industry is reminded that the wage rates and allowances are due to increase by 3% from Monday 3 July 2023. See here on the second page for more details.
His Majesty King Charles III’s Coronation
The SNIJIB have agreed that there will not be an extra holiday in 2023 to mark the Coronation of King Charles III.
Want to become a SNIJIB recognised apprentice plumber?
The SNIJIB welcomes both men and women from all ages in the Plumbing Industry. If you wish to undertake a Modern Apprenticeship in Domestic Plumbing and Heating you must first find an employer.
Individuals are expected to have a minimum of four National 4 Qualifications/ Standard Grades at general level and will be required to pass the Plumbing Industry’s Apprentice Entrance Selection Test (invigilated by a recruiting employer). More info here.
New Wage Agreement
The Scottish & Northern Ireland Joint Industry Board for the Plumbing Industry (SNIPEF & UNITE) agreed the following graded rates of wages and allowances to apply from Monday 1 August 2022 and from Monday 3 July 2023.
